The last time I saw the epic, dance-filled story of the Sharks and the Jets, it was performed by my high school Alma mater.  They did a great job, but I'm even more excited to see "West Side Story" when it comes to the Lincoln Center this month!

The musical explores the rivalry between the Jets and the Sharks, two teenage street gangs of different ethnic backgrounds. The members of the Sharks from Puerto Rico are taunted by the Jets, a Polish-American working-class group. The young protagonist, Tony, one of the Jets, falls in love with Maria, the sister of Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks. The dark theme, sophisticated music, extended dance scenes, and focus on social problems marked a turning point in American musical theatre.

"West Side Story" is an incredibly groundbreaking and unique show.  It really has everything: music, dance, drama, and...did I mention incredible dancing?

If you've never seen "West Side Story" before, do yourself a favor and go see it while it's in town, March 27th thru 29th.  And if you've only seen the movie, see it live!  Seriously.  It will change the way you think about theatre.

One thing to keep in mind: "West Side Story" deals with some fairly mature themes, and contains some adult language; so it isn't recommended for people under age 13.
