Weld County residents are now able to renew their vehicle registration at a self-service kiosk, thanks to a new pilot program. The iconic blue and yellow machines which look similar to an ATM machine are available for customers to use in the Greeley Motor Vehicle office.

Weld County is the third county in the state to launch Colorado MVExpress kiosks under a pilot program. Thirteen other counties will add the kiosks later this year. The machines are expected to reduce wait times at motor vehicle offices helping consumers renew their license plates and freeing up staff to assist with the more complex title and registration transactions.

No Waiting

The touch-screen terminals will allow a citizen to walk up, scan the barcode on their vehicle renewal notice, pay fees by check, credit or debit card, and receive their printed
registration and license plate tabs on the spot, without waiting at a county office.

There is a Delay for Some Procedures

If your vehicle requires an emissions test, you should complete it at least two business days before using a kiosk. If you have changed or updated your auto insurance, you should wait 2-4 business days before using a kiosk to renew.

What Other States Have These Kiosks?

Nationally, seven states already offer self-service kiosks, including California, Georgia, Indiana, Ohio, New York, Nevada and South Dakota. The California Department of Motor Vehicles reported last year that its 50 terminals have processed four million transactions since they were installed in 2010.
