The Weld County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about two ongoing phone scams involving a person or persons pretending to be deputies and attempting to take money from residents in the area.

Multiple people have reported being contacted by someone named Corporal Dan Boyle with the Weld County Sheriff's Office who claims that he needs a return call in reference to an arrest warrant for a missed Grand Jury appearance. The caller later tries to collect money as a way to resolve the warrant. The second scam going around is a call from an individual identifying himself as Lieutenant Johns, also saying he is with the Weld County Sheriff's Office. He claims that you need to contact him at his office, as he currently has a situation that needs to be discussed and resolved as soon as possible – however there is nobody by this name that actually works on staff at the Sheriff's Office in Weld County. Both of these callers have been said to be extremely adamant in asking for money.

The Weld County Sheriff's Office is reminding the public that arrest warrants cannot be resolved through payment, nor would they ever contact anyone by phone for this purpose. If you are contacted by anyone claiming to be law enforcement officer and wanting to take your money over the phone, you are asked to contact the real sheriff's office at 970-356-4015 or Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be submitted through the Crime Stoppers website at www.crimeshurt.com. Those submitting tips through Crime Stoppers that lead to the arrest and filing of charges on a suspect(s) may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000 from Crime Stoppers.
