If your 'why' is important enough, you'll figure out the 'how.'

In a world full of internet quotes, I am unsure to whom to attribute this saying.

But it's a great quote, so, if it was you, great job.

Basically, if you have an important enough reason why you want to make a change, you will find a way to make that change.

I've also heard it said this way.

If your why is important enough, you'll figure out the how.

Again, I'm not sure who to credit.

I have had issues with alcohol in the past. Since I've had some success in dealing with them, people will sometimes ask me to help others who are in a similar situation. I will. Anytime. Anywhere.

But I won't call them. No chance.

I will only help them if they call or reach out to me. Why not? Because until they are ready, there will be no helping them. They have to know they want help. They have to want to make a change. For me, that's enough to start helping them. When I do, I know that the ones that are going to be successful are the ones that know why they need to make a change.

The same goes for losing weight, getting into better shape, etc. Your doctor can tell you you need to, your spouse can nag, TV ads can speak loudly and clearly about the essential need for you to make a change. If you ain't ready, it ain't happening.

So, tap into that 'why'. If it's a weight and health issue, start to imagine why it is important for you to be around in the future. Daydream of why it would be much better to have strength, balance, flexibility, and ability rather than pain, restrictions, fatigue, lethargy and inability.

If it's a feat of athleticism (marathon, half marathon, 5k, American Ninja Warrior, etc) that you want to accomplish, think of why you want to accomplish it.

Maybe you don't have a 'why', and can't imagine how you would ever find one. Fine. Turn it around, though. Start to imagine it creeping into your mind. Allow it, and maybe it will come.

A solid 'why' allows enthusiasm to enter the picture, and I can promise you one thing, enthusiasm makes everything a lot easier.
