UFO or Meteor Shower in Fort Collins?

One Fort Collins resident believes they saw a UFO during the annual Perseid Meteor Shower earlier this month. But is it legit?

The annual meteor shower peaked August 11, 12, and 13 this year, with 15 to 30 meteors showering per hour under a Waxing Gibbous moon, which is said to possibly interfere with viewing Perseid meteors. Under clear skies in complete darkness, however, observers could witness 50 to 80 meteors per hour.

On August 13, the last peak day of the meteor shower, a Fort Collins resident reported seeing something strange in the sky, and it doesn’t sound like a meteor.

According to the anonymous user’s report on the National UFO Reporting Center’s website, they were viewing the meteor shower from a field at about 4 a.m. when a V-shaped object with 5 lights flew overhead. It made no sound as it traveled southeast, making a quick, nearly-vertical turn before returning to a horizontal position in the same direction.

Additional details get really weird, making the incident even more confusing.

“The stars behind the object shifted a bit as if they were placed under water and then once it had passed returned to where they were,” the reporter said, admitting they have no evidence of this happening because their phone was dead. The incident lasted approximately 5 seconds.

So, do you think this is a legit occurrence, or do you think there’s a reasonable explanation for this? Like, were they on drugs? (I’m totally kidding, whoever you are!)

Northern Colorado also had 4 UFO sightings reported on July 4. While it’s easy to quickly dismiss them as being fireworks, I don’t think fireworks really fit these descriptions.
