I finally joined modern times and utilized Uber for a ride home last night. I had heard so many amazing things about "how easy Uber is" and how "it's so much cheaper", but for some reason, I was skeptical. Last night, that changed. Before I called a cab to take me home, I downloaded the Uber app and received an instant $20 credit for my first ride. Instantly, a little price button jumped on my screen and said my ride would be about $7. What? I pay almost $20 when I call a cab, after fare and tip. The app also showed me a picture of the driver, their license plate number and the make and model of their car. So, then I confirmed with friends that when you use Uber, you don't need to tip, it's included in your fare. Yes, that's true. Also, no cash is exchanged, it's all taken care of through the app with a credit card, or PayPal. Download the Uber app, get your first ride free and join me in these modern times.

Uber drivers go through a background check, medical exam, and vehicle inspection before they are allowed to drive for Uber. This way you can know you are in good hands.

Uber’s pricing is similar to metered taxis, although all hiring and payment is handled exclusively through Uber and not with the driver personally. If the Uber car is travelling at a speed greater than 11 mph, the price is calculated on a distance basis. Otherwise, the price is calculated on a time basis. At the end of a ride, the complete fare (which includes gratuity—Uber’s exact wording is “No Need to Tip” and no option to add a tip exists except to offer it by cash) is automatically billed to the customer’s credit card.
