Just days after the Poudre River opened for recreational activities, it has already been shutdown to some of those activities because of above average runoff and extreme danger.

Fort Collins officials issued a partial use restriction today (May 29th) for recreational water activities in the city. The restrictions apply to all air-inflated devices that have only one compartment including inner tubes, air mattresses and small inflatable rafts.

The restrictions do not apply to canoes, kayaks or multi-chambered inflated vessels like those used by commercial rafting companies.

The restrictions will be in place until further notice, and are only for parts of the river inside Fort Collins city limits, but deadly conditions are still present throughout the Poudre Canyon.

Boulder County officials also announced a ban today, and will fine violators $50 if caught breaking the rules. No word on whether Fort Collins will issue a fine for violaters.
