A bright, sunny Saturday made for the perfect morning for the annual Hope Conquering Huntington's walk at Boardwalk Park in Windsor this past weekend.

On Saturday, June 6, 2015 friends and families gathered for the walk around beautiful Windsor Lake to support families that are affected with, and also raise awareness for Huntington's Disease, a condition in which nerve cells in the brain break down over time. Everyone was so happy to be there and the weather that morning truly couldn't have been any more pleasant for an event like this. The whole atmosphere was overall just so cheerful and TRI-102.5 was happy to be a part of it!

This is the fifth walk that has been put on in Northern Colorado in support of Huntington's Disease, but the first that Hope Conquering has put on themselves, since recently splitting off from a larger, national foundation and starting their own non-profit organization. Founders Jenna Schaefer and Sami Peterson were so excited to share that now, all of the proceeds that are raised will remain in Colorado, helping families on a local level.

For Schaefer, it meant so much to her seeing everyone that was there, coming together for the same common goal and supporting each other. She should be very proud of what Hope Conquering Huntington's put together on Saturday, as the day was such a great success and so much fun!

Following the 2.25 mile walk around the lake, participants got to feast on a delicious BBQ cook-off, put on by the Loveland, Windsor, and Fort Collins fire departments. The kiddos got to enjoy a fun, mini-color run complete with prizes, while also getting to take a tour of a fire truck, hop around in a bounce house and watch an awesome magic show!

Co-founder, Sami Peterson said that her favorite part of the day is "seeing all of these people coming together and choosing to be a part of the journey of families with Huntington's Disease." She also loves coming to these events and seeing how different people connect and form relationships based on a common goal and journey.
