After being closed all winter long, Trail Ridge Road is expected to open for the season this Friday – weather permitting.

Rocky Mountain National Park staff will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at noon at the Alpine Visitor Center, officially marking the 48-mile highway as open to the public, just in time for the long weekend. Crews began working last month to clear snow from the road.

The earliest Trail Ridge Road has ever opened for the summer was on May 7, 2002, and the latest was on June 26, back in 1943.
