A Thunderbirds jet crashed near Colorado Springs just minutes after an airshow over the Air Force Academy graduation.

According to The Gazette, the F-16 fighter crashed in a field across from the First Baptist Church in the Security/Widefield area. The Colorado Springs Airport says the pilot safely ejected at approximately 1:15 p.m.

Engine failure reportedly caused the crash, though the official cause is still under investigation.

The crash, along with President Obama's departure from Peterson Air Force Base, also caused road closures.
