There are several reasons most of have never heard of this memorial honoring victims of the terrorist attack on New York in September, 2001. Have you seen it yet?

The first time I had seen this monument/memorial was early last year but it now seems to be making it's way across social media lately.

The "Teardrop" was erected (no pun intended) in 2006 in Bayonne, New Jersey. The "Teardrop" was a gift from Russia and endorsed by Vladimir Putin himself. There was no real media coverage and some say it's because the Russian President included a big picture of himself on it.

Others say it looks like, well, a vagina to put it in simple terms and was Russia's way of calling America (slang for vagina that starts with a P) to put it bluntly. I find that hard to believe, but, it does look like a vagina and the first time I saw it that was exactly what came to mind.

A gift from artist Zurab Tsereteli and the Russian people, the memorial is made of steel sheathed in bronze. Standing 100 feet high, its center contains a jagged tear. In it hangs a 40-foot stainless steel teardrop, representing sadness and grief over the loss of life, but also hope for a future free from terror. Etched in granite on an 11-sided base are the names of the nearly 3,000 killed in the 1993 World Trade Center bombings and terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Many sources say it was intended for the prime waterfront in New Jersey but they didn't want it so it went to Bayonne with little notice. Ultimately, we'll probably never know the real reason as to it's design or placement, but most, from what I can tell, hate it because of what it looks like.

Other reputable sources say Tsereteli was at ground zero shortly after the attack and learned many were taken to Bayonne and it was also a staging area for rescuers etc. That, and the fact that Manhattan was in the background, was why the location was chosen.
