The Bridges & Roads of Colorado Sustain Millions of Dollars in Damage

Weld County Gov. Facebook by Nikki Stamison

CDOT’s initial assessment of 30 destroyed bridges and 20 more that are heavily damaged in Colorado at “millions and millions” of dollars. Numbers are expected to go up as flood waters recede and crews get a better idea of what lies ahead for them.

Access to many of the bridges has been impossible and transportation officials report at this time they cannot say exactly where the destroyed and damaged structures are, nor when repair and replacement will happen. In some cases, fly overs have been the only way to survey the destruction of hundreds of bridges.

The top priorities are to restore access to communities that are cut off from utilities, deliveries, and emergency vehicle traffic. Repair work has begun on at least one bridge over the South Platte River north of CR 46 in Weld County.

9 News video explains how officials at CDOT are dealing with all of the infrastructure issues.
