The state of Colorado is home to many great bands throughout the years. The Lumineers. The Fray. Big Head Todd and the Monsters. But one national publication lists another as the best in the state.

According to Thrillist, Denver based DeVotchKa is the band that stands out in the state as, according to the publication, they "embody the eclectic spirit of the Rocky Mountain State".

The band is comprised of Nick Urata, Tom Hagerman, Jeanie Schroder, and Shawn King. How'd they come up with their name? It's actually derived from the Russian word devochka, which simply means "girl". The band has been active since 1997.

Here is their song "How It Ends", which reached #101 on the UK singles charts:

This isn't the first high honor they have received, as in 2008 they were named the "Best New Band from Colorado" in the Boston newspaper The Phoenix.

The band still tours throughout the country, with upcoming dates in Boulder, Hollywood, and Seattle.
