When we first heard about Selak, we were convinced he was an urban legend, but with the help of a Google search, he appears to be real (though, we still wonder if his story is). According to BBC, the Croatian music teacher cheated death seven times — we're  not actually sure if that's considered lucky, or unlucky, but you can be the judge. During his eighth life, Salek had the unimaginable happen (no, no near-death brushes with 'planes, trains and (flaming) automobiles' this time). At 72 years old, Salek won a million dollars while playing the lottery.

Word has it that Salek gave away most of his winnings to family and friends (aw, nice guy!) and built a shrine for the Virgin Mary.
