A missing person case in Berthoud sadly did not have a happy ending on Thursday.

Early Thursday morning, deputies with the Larimer County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a missing teenage male who'd left his home. In a news release, LCSO says the boy's parents were concerned for his safety and said he may have gone to Berthoud High School.

Deputies responded to the school and found an open door. The body of a deceased teenage male was located inside the building.

The boy's identity, as well as cause and manner of death, will be released at a later time.

LCSO says there is no known threat to the school, students, staff, or citizens living or working in the area. All necessary precautions are being taken to ensure everyone's safety.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the boy's family during this very difficult time.
