Did you ever have a teacher or counselor that, when you had to make a move to up to a new school, you just couldn't imagine anyone else filling their role?

That's Janelle Day at Lucille Erwin Middle School.

Mrs. Day is loved.

She gives of herself and people are speaking up. I could feel the excitement in the office as I entered. I've been there a number of times to present Teacher Tuesday awards, because, as she says in the video:

We have an amazing staff.

It always feels good to present the award. This time was special because, since she's a counselor, there wasn't a classroom full of kids there. It was a nice change to a more personal setting, and she stood there awash in validating recognition from the people around her.

Here is the letter from the nominating parent.

Mrs Day is the school counselor. She has the support of every student in the school. Her kind heart, love for her students and willingness to share her time/energy and passion shows in everything she does. Being a parent of a child who's been bullied, suffers from medical conditions and struggles with organizational skills (as most children do) Mrs Day has been a huge support system for myself and my child. She has an "open door" policy and stands by it completely. I've never had such an incredible, strong, kind counselor work so hard to help each child succeed in what they do. She brings their best qualities out and gives every student the recognition they deserve rather than pointing out flaws. If I had a choice, I would make sure Mrs Day would follow my child's student career at each and every school. We will sadly miss her as my child ventures onto high school next year.

Many thanks to Drew Bankston and Star Painter Productions for really capturing the feel of this day.
