While driving on Main Street in downtown Windsor, it's easy to notice how rich of a history the town has, just by checking out some of the surrounding architecture. Many of the present buildings still feature a vintage style exterior and decor to them –some remaining completely unaltered since the mid-nineteenth century.

The town of Windsor is full of historical happenings and stories about its first settlers and prominent leaders –but you can't learn about these interesting facts by just driving up and down Main Street.

That's why it's really cool that the Town of Windsor's Historical Preservation Commission now has a digital walking tour available that will guide you through historic downtown Windsor. You can check out all of the old buildings and historical landmarks, while also reading about the first and founding businesses of the town. Plus, for this one-mile tour loop, you don't even have to leave your couch!

It's really neat to see these buildings that you might drive by everyday and not even notice, and to then learn about what community members were actually doing there back in the early 1900's. The homes that are a part of this tour are not open to the public, so this is your best shot at getting an up close and personal peek into the historical world of Windsor's core.

The tour can be viewed by using your phone, tablet or computer. Just click this link to take a virtual stroll around downtown Windsor: http://gis.windsorgov.com/DowntownHistory/
