Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests Awarded Type-3 Helicoptor To Help Firefighters

Firefighters that have to deal with fires in Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests will have a new tool this year. The U.S. Forest Service said there will be a type 3 firefighting helicopter available, exclusively to them, from mid-June until mid-September.

Ugh, we were all already complaining about the heat this week, but now the Coloradoan is reporting that there are two small wildfires burning in the Cherokee Park area of Larimer County.

Firefighters Battling Fires In Larimer County, West Of Pinewood Reservoir (Hells Canyon, Poll Hill)

Firefighters are battling TWO new blazes in Larimer County. The Denver Channel is reporting that "fire crews are responding to a fire in steep terrain, west of Pinewood Reservoir." The Larimer Sheriff announced via twitter that there are now two fires burning in the area.

There Are At Least Seven Wildfires Burning in Colorado [UPDATED 6/14/13 at 5:15 a.m.]

There are at least 7 wildfires burning across Colorado right now, including the Big Meadow Fire in Rocky Mountain National Park. Fire danger is extremely high and it will be hot and dry again today over much of our state.

The Galena Fire west of Fort Collins is now 1,348 acres and is now considered to be 85% contained. All pre-evacuation notices have been cancelled, but residents are advised to remain alert for changing conditions.

The Galena fire west of Horsetooth Reservoir is believed to be 75% contained. The Fire is now estimated at 1348 acres. There has been minimal growth in the fire. The higher estimate is based on better mapping.
