In case you missed it -- Disney bought Lucasfilm for $4 billion dollars. They also own Marvel now too. To put it in other words, all that stuff you liked as a kid to prove you're not a girl is now owned by the people who made 'Beauty and the Beast.' It's been hard to call myself a "Star Wars" fan over the past few years. The prequel trilogy was definitely shiny and high-tech, but it definitely lacked the magic of the original three films. Plenty of my friends have shared the opinion that George Lucas needs to hand the reins over to someone else and step back from his legacy; and it looks like he's just done exactly that.

As we showed in our lost Disney songs list, no Disney film is set in stone from start to finish. Plots get written, songs get dropped and characters get redesigned. Looking at early Disney concept art is like finally reading that novel that your favorite movie was based on only to discover it's totally different. Still, there's a simple charm in seeing these characters immediately after being birthed, before they were fine tuned, polished and marketed through endless merchandise.

Disney is a favorite of ours, almost like a family. And as a family, you have to deal with all your relatives -- the good, the bad and the strange. Never forget that Uncle Walt was a product of his time, and as such, his cartoons contained some material that would shock our politically correct 21st century sensibilities.

After the lackluster release of "The Princess and the Frog" last year, Disney seems to have learned its lesson.  On Friday, Disney's "Tangled" made $5.1 million at the box office, surpassing the $4.8 million in opening day returns for Warner Brothers' "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1."
