For the Front Range, we may have to hope that this snow sticks through a couple of mild days if we want a white Christmas.

I think it will. As you can see by the forecast from my fav weather app Intellicast, the highs barely leave the 30's this week in Fort Collins.

With a small chance of snow on Christmas Day and the day after, this past snow may have to strong enough to carry us through.

In the mountains, however, that is not the case.

Some heavy storms could hit the high country early in the week, and could leave feet of snow in their wake.

This is where the forecasts are starting to differ. I saw a TV weather report that said that Steamboat could see up to two feet. Intellicast is only predicting for 1-3 inches of snow on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the National Weather Service isn't currently listing snow totals.

I've seen these types of storms before. Watch, because the the prediction of snow for Christmas Eve and Day could go up. When big sustained storms come and sit on the area, they are rarely predicted more than two days out.

Colorado translation? Be ready, big things could happen and they could continue through the New Year.

This forecast for the Vail Valley looks very promising, as well. The buzz all summer was that this snow year is supposed to be bigger than any we've seen in a long time, and the holiday week and weekend could be one of the big ones!

The base amount of snow at the resorts that most Front Rangers ski is between 30 and 40 inches. That's nothing huge, but it's a good start. With the cold weather and a few more storms, we'll be at mid winter conditions for the start of the season!
