Kimberly Buckner is ready to be a mother.

You can tell by the fact that she's bought the furniture, has prepared a baby book, and is in the process of adopting.

The only place she's coming up short? Money. She is about $7,000 short of what she needs to make the adoption happen.

Likewise, another Denver couple that want to become parents are finding the cost of in vitro fertilization prohibitive.

So what do they do? Turn to crowd funding.

Website like Kickstarter, GoFundMe, and even a locally produced site like CommunityFunded have exploded in popularity. The process is simple. When you find something you want to fund, you create a 'paint by numbers' page on their site that describes the who, what, when, where and why of the situation. Add little bonuses that people can receive (not necessary, but helpful), and then, you wait and see what happens. Most of these sites come with a caveat that if the desired amount of money isn't raised, the fundraiser receives nothing.
