Rubbin' Butz BBQ in Milliken have changed their minds and will not be having a one day celebration to honor "whites." The sudden change seems suspect to many.

I had written a story last week about Rubbin' Butz BBQ in Milliken, Colorado who were planning a "White Appreciation Day" on June 11 to offer Caucasians a 10% discount, but according to AP reports, the owners have now changed their minds and will not go forward with it and instead will offer anyone a 10% discount that day.

Rubbin' Buttz BBQ did receive a bomb threat on Friday, May 8 which seems to have contributed to this decision. I see many comments on social network feeds now that think the whole "white appreciation day" was nothing more than a PR stunt to gain National attention and drum up business.

Hispanic co-owner Edgar Antillion said in a comment on the restaurant's Facebook page that he is not "backtracking" and that "our intent was to never deny anyone the discount" but when 9 News interviewed him last week on if a black person would get a discount, he said:

No. I wouldn't get a discount. Even if I came in, I wouldn't get a discount. - Edgar Antillon

I may be confused on the term of "backtracking" but it sure seems to me that the eatery was very clear the 10% discount was for "white people" only and on record as saying that, very clearly.

My recent Facebook conversation on their page

Charley Barnes: It's not white appreciation day anymore though correct RUBBIN' BUTTZ BBQ? 10% to anyone now on that day from what AP reports. Like · 43 mins

RUBBIN' BUTTZ BBQ: It's still called that. The sign is still up. Our intent was never to deny anyone the discount. Part of the sign says "Because all Americans should be celebrated." Yes we wanted to highlight double standards, but our intention was always to offer the discount to anyone who asked. Like · 38 mins

Many are now suspect of the decision based on the fact that the support for their idea was overwhelming and many agreed the more bomb threats they got, the better it was for their business for sticking to their guns, so to speak. Now they have caved to the pressure they were getting, a lot of it from people who don't even live in Colorado and would never have eaten there anyway, as opposed to the positive support from those who do eat there, and of course all those who were planning on trying them for the first time during "white appreciation day."

If the owners felt so strongly about this idea, why the sudden change? Call it what you want, they were very clear as to their intentions and then changed their minds, after all the press, to include everyone and still call it "white appreciation day."

If this is all about "Americans" now as they say, it should have been called "Americans Appreciation Day" and given a 10% discount to everyone who had a legal ID proving citizenship.
