The Coloradoan is reporting that RMNP has welcomed more than 3 million visitors this year. This figure is an eight percent increase from last year.

Each month has broken visitation records in 2016, and the numbers are on pace to beat 2015's record of 4 million visitors.

Kyle Patterson, the spokesman for Rocky Mountain National Park, tells The Coloradoan there are several factors for the increase in visitation, like "increasing population of Colorado's Front Range, a boost in the economy and reduced gas prices."

Mid-September through mid-October you will be able to see the elk battle each other, part of their annual elk rut, which is their big mating dance.
