Rockies Fall to A’s 8-2, Swept for Second Straight Series
The highest scoring team in the National League couldn’t get the bats going this afternoon, as the struggling Colorado Rockies (24-38) fell to the Oakland Athletics (29-35) 8-2 this afternoon in Denver, completing a sweep by the opposition for the second straight series. The Rockies face the Detroit Tigers (30-33) tomorrow night at Comerica Park.
Colorado prevented being shut out for the fourth time this season with a small rally in the bottom of the ninth. Marco Scutaro whacked his fourth home run and Carlos Gonzalez hit an infield single and advanced to second on defensive indifference. Tyler Colvin doubled in Gonzalez.
Starting pitcher Alex White gave up four runs, two earned, in four innings on seven hits and four walks. White’s five strikeouts were his third-most this year.

The Rockies had given up leads in the first two games against the A’s. On Tuesday, starting pitcher Jeremy Guthrie was handed a 4-0 lead after the first inning but coughed it all up in an 8-5 loss. Rafael Betancourt’s blown save Wednesday night — the Rockies entered the top of the ninth with a one-run lead — resulted in a 10-8 loss. Colorado moves to 0-9 in Interleague Play this season, and have now lost eight games in a row.
