Red Rocks is set to grow by 98 acres of city-owned property outside of its 9,525-person-capacity venue.

According to the Boulder Daily Camera, Denver city officials began the expansion process, which will grow the 868-acre park by approximately 11%, giving plenty of room for new hiking trails at the south entrance along Country Road 93 and Mount Vernon Creek.

This could become the largest single addition to Denver parks in recent years when the full council will (likely) approve it come mid-July and will expand the narrow piece of the park that connects to Entrance 2, with the exception of a house that sits on a piece of land deeded to become park property sometime in the future.

Denver Parks and Recreation will begin the trail development process later this year, as announced by Denver Mayor Michael Hancock. The new trails might connect with 2 miles of trails in the park and meander into Jefferson County's Matthews/Winters Park and to other parts of Morrison.
