If my kids ask to try something new to eat. I almost always say yes. I see it as a culinary adventure. So, when we were in our local Trader Joe's the other day and one of my boys said "what are these? Can we get them?" I had to. I was saying "yes", to rambutan fruit.

Part of the appeal was a little ninja looking fruit on the package, my boys love him. Then, of course, the fruit itself is hairy and looks like an ocean creature. The container included directions on how to cut into this strange little thing. We were told they have the texture of the inside part of a grape. They do, kind of. Watch the video below to see what we all experienced.

According to Wikipedia "The rambutan is native to the Malay-Indonesian region and other regions of tropical Southeast Asia. It is closely related to several other edible tropical fruits including the lychee, longan, and mamoncillo."
