The City of Greeley Police Department Animal Control Officers captured a skunk on Monday that tested positive for the rabies virus. The skunk was found in the 100 block of N. 23rd Avenue and transported to the Health Department for testing. On Tuesday evening, the Health Department confirmed that the skunk was infected with rabies virus and was capable of infecting other animals or humans. The Greeley Police Department is encouraging anyone who has had contact with a skunk, or had an animal bitten by a skunk in the last week to contact the Weld County Health Department. A second skunk is also being tested at this time. It was found in the 2100 block of 7th Street. Read more on this story in the Greeley Tribune.
