The city of Fort Collins was happy to announce that Prospect Road will reopen ahead of schedule. The improvement is preparing the train rails for the coming MAX Rapid Transit system, and the crews are almost done with that section of the construction.

According to the city, Prospect Road will reopen to through traffic by Saturday morning, April 6.  Thanks to extensive planning, diligent work by the crews and cooperative weather, the closure will end ahead of schedule.

Prospect Road has been fully closed between College and Centre avenues since

March 4 as multiple contractors, as well as City of Fort Collins crews, updated nearly every aspect of the City’s infrastructure during construction of the MAX bus rapid transit system.  Prospect Road, at the intersection near the BNSF railroad tracks, is very narrow.  With the amount of utility work that had to occur in this constrained space, it was not possible to safely close portions of the street and allow traffic to pass by construction.  New water lines, sewer pipes and electric conduits were relocated, and a new concrete roadway, curb & gutter, and sidewalks were installed as part of the new pedestrian-friendly MAX transit system.
