Ah, Prince. Whether he’s changing his name to a symbol, scrawling slogans on his face, threatening to sue his fans, or publicly daydreaming about a world in which no one is allowed to cover his songs, he’s always good for a provocative quote or two.

His latest interview, with the UK’s Guardian, didn’t disappoint.

When the subject turned to his plans for new music, the prolific artist promised to keep his vaults shut for the foreseeable future, bemoaning “crazy” Internet piracy and saying, “Nobody’s making money now except phone companies, Apple and Google. I’m supposed to go to the White House to talk about copyright protection. It’s like the gold rush out there. Or a carjacking. There’s no boundaries. I’ve been in meetings and they’ll tell you, Prince, you don’t understand, it’s dog-eat-dog out there. So I’ll just hold off on recording.”

And even if we can fix the piracy problem, Prince isn’t thrilled with mp3s, in general. “I personally can’t stand digital music. You’re getting sound in bits. It affects a different place in your brain. When you play it back, you can’t feel anything. We’re analog people, not digital.”
