Posing as Fort Collins and Colorado State University authorities, scammers are attempting to get money from students and employees of CSU. The scammers are trying to get their potential victims to transfer money via PayPal, Western Union or MoneyGram according to the Coloradoan. They are using the CSU online directory and social media to find their targets and are posing as law enforcement. The suspects have been able to alter their caller identification system to make it look as if they are calling from CSU police and Fort Collins PD. They then demand for payment to avoid arrest for CSU employees and suspension for students. If contacted, hang up and contact the office they were posing as to verify legitimacy. You can then report the call to the Federal Trad Commission at www.consumer.ftc.gov.
