Pertussis (Whooping Cough) Persists in Colorado
There are likely many cases of pertussis that do not get diagnosed and so
far there are none in 2014.
A Blevins Middle School student diagnosed with pertussis in late December may have passed his infection onto others before the Christmas break.
According to the Coloradoan, the student was treated with antibiotics during the break to stop further spread of the respiratory infection, also known as whooping cough.
The state health department says there were 1,395 confirmed cases of pertussis in 2013, down from 1,505 in 2012. Larimer County confirmed cases numbered 80 in 2012 and 83 in 2013.
