Certain things just catch on and spread like wildfire. Livestrong bracelets, razor scooters, women getting shaved hairstyles, PokemonGo and stand up paddleboarding. I have loved none of these things, except the paddleboarding.

My brother and I went for a 2-hour paddleboarding excursion at Horsetooth Reservoir. It was a new experience for both of us. We decided to rent from Mountain' SUP on the north end of the reservoir. They gave us a quick little tutorial, let me stash my keys and my shoes and sent us on our way. I had a small backpack with me to bring drinks and my cellphone in a waterproof (freezer bag) case.

Initially you start out kneeling to get going, then stand up. Standing up feels a little unsteady, but once you're up, it's okay. Turns out the boards are much wider and stable than I thought. Now I know why there are so many yoga and paddleboarding events happening. My favorite way to cruise around the water was actually to sit, with my legs straight out in front of me. You can also lay down. These are basically surfboards for non-surfers. I made that up, but that's how I felt.

Our 2 hours was enough time to cruise around, stop and chat and fight the wind to get back. It was really fun. A nice way to be out on the water exploring and still be able to have a conversation.

Anytime you go to Horsetooth Resevoir you will need to spend the $7 for a day pass. The 2-hour rentals from SUP cost $70. It was well worth it, but if you want to check around Jax also does rentals, but then you need to haul the boards yourself.
