An online petition to install safety improvements at the Eaton train crossing has gained more than 13-thousand signatures. The crossing has been temporarily closed. The petition at follows Kennedi Ingram’s tragic death. She was an Eaton High School senior athlete who died Tuesday evening when a train struck her SUV. The petition reads:

On February 22nd, 2017, the Eaton community grieved the loss of Dallas Duran after his car was struck by a train at the 5th street railroad crossing. Nothing effective was done by the town government, Union Pacific, or the Federal Railroad Administration to prevent the loss of any more lives. As a result, Eaton suffered another tremendous loss on February 6th, 2018 when the same railroad crossing claimed the life of Kennedi Ingram. Both of these kids had so much to live for, and their community will not be the same without them. As a community, we implore the Town of Eaton government, Union Pacific, and the Federal Railroad Administration to please install a real signal at this crossing. We simply cannot stand to lose another life, young or old, due to the poor visibility and lack of a proper signal that this railroad crossing has. May Dallas and Kennedi rest in peace, and may the tragic loss of their lives not be taken in vain.
