At 116, he saw the first man take flight, the radio go on the air, TV and moving pictures debut, the transition from horse to car, too many wars, and everything else that has happened since before Roosevelt was President. Teddy Roosevelt that is.

Jiroemon Kimura, a 116-year-old former post officer worker, was born the same year as Amelia Earhart all they way back in 1897.

According to NBCNews.com, he attributed his long life to...

...getting out in the sunlight.

"I am always looking up towards the sky. That is how I am," Kimura said.

He enjoyed his 116th birthday on April 19 by watching a video message from Japan's prime minister. Kimura was admitted to hospital last month after contracting pneumonia.
He leaves behind seven children, 14 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.
