A fire in Old Town Fort Collins that started early this morning has destroyed a building and displaced residents. The fire has been brought under control in the last hour, but some that were living in the Penny Flats have been displaced.

The three-alarm fire was reported about 3:30 a.m. Monday, and Penny Flats residents raced from their building at 204 Maple St. as the unfinished building north of them went up. More than 60 firefighters from Poudre Fire Authority and Loveland Fire-Rescue fought the blaze.

“There’s a huge amount of damage,” said PFA spokesman Capt. Patrick Love.

According to Poudre Fire Authority, no one was injured in the 3-alarm fire.

Paul Wozniak just spoke to Patrick Love at Poudre Fire Authority on the telephone for an update and tells us the cause is still under investigation.

For those affected by the disaster, a service center has been set up at the City of Fort Collins Parks and Recreation building at 220 North Howes, said Erin Mounsey, executive director of the Northern Colorado chapter of the American Red Cross. People displaced by the fire can get information on services available to help them.
