Erie could become one of the few towns in Colorado to ban recreational marijuana businesses.

According to Colorado Hometown Weekly, four town board members are in favor of the ban and three favor a yearlong extension of the town's existing moratorium, which expires December 31st.

The moratorium was enacted in January 2013 three months after voters statewide approved Amendment 64, legalizing the purchase of up to 1 ounce of marijuana and permitted the sale, cultivation and manufacturing of pot products.

Recent survey results revealed more than 60 percent of 1,191 respondents opposed retail marijuana businesses within town limits. The board did not take an official vote on the ordinance, but asked staff to bring the ban back for a vote at its next meeting November 10th.
