UPDATE (AUGUST 14): Well, no one can blame us for dreaming.

According to the diva herself, Adele will not be performing at the 2017 Super Bowl Halftime Show. Womp womp.

While performing at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the "Hello" superstar confirmed that while the powers-that-be did ask her to perform, she declined the invitation because she didn't feel it was a great fit for her.

"First of all, I'd like to say that I'm not doing the Super Bowl," she told the audience, resulting in swell of disappointment.

"Well, come on! I mean, come on, that show is not about music and I don't really put on... I don't dance or anything like that," Adele argued, adding, "They were very kind, they did ask me but I did say no. I'm sorry. But maybe next time!"

ORIGINAL POST (AUGUST 9): Take this one with a massive grain of salt...and a few old flip phones too, for good measure.

The Sun's Dan Wootton reported last evening (August 8) that NFL officials are eying none other than the 25 powerhouse herself, Adele, to carry next year's Super Bowl halftime show.

"I can reveal American football bosses are desperately trying to land Adele for what is one of the world’s most-watched sporting events," he claims — but there's an apparent catch that's holding her back: her nerves.

"An NFL source said: 'There is nobody bigger in the world than Adele right now and organisers are doing absolutely everything they can to try to persuade her to sign up. She’s sold out every date on her tour, everyone wants a piece of her and they know they can bank on her bringing in the viewers. It’s Adele’s nerves that are the issue — it hasn’t been an easy sell.”

The singer is currently out on the US leg of her massively successful Adele Live 2016 Tour.

Will she, in fact, be saying "Hello" from the other side of the football field in early 2017?

Hits Daily Double adds that with her current contract negotiations, the high profile gig may be appealing to her team: "With her new Sony deal in place, the label will no doubt be seeking out U.S. opportunities, though manager Jonathan Dickins is notoriously incredibly picky over the gigs Adele accepts."

Previous Super Bowl halftime shows have been headlined by the likes of Coldplay, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Madonna and Bruno Mars. Adele is certainly worthy of joining the ranks, but will her alleged nerves and/or choosy manager prevent it from happening?

Super Bowl LI will be the 51st Super Bowl, and is scheduled for Sunday, February 5, 2017 at NRG Stadium in Houston.
