My family has joked for years that eventually Fort Collins and Loveland would grow together.  Now, they finally have the money to build a trail connecting the two cities.

The Colorado Department of Transportation awarded Larimer County a $1 million grant for the 4.4-mile Long View Corridor Trail in January. It will run along the east side of North Taft Avenue in Loveland and South Shields Street in Fort Collins. They trail will provide "a safe, non-motorized alternative for traveling between Fort Collins and Loveland.

The trail will pass through three City of Fort Collins natural areas, one Larimer County open space and one City of Loveland natural area. Although Fort Collins and Larimer County had secured most of the land needed to build the trail, the acquisition of Sunset Vista Natural Area will allow the trail to be finished.

When Will it Open?

Construction of the Long View Corridor Trail and the trailhead at Sunset Vista Natural Area is expected to begin in 2016 with a grand opening planned for 2017.
