A new 2-mile trail will soon link Loveland and Fort Collins thanks to grants from CDOT and the Department of Parks and Wildlife.

The Front Range Trail will connect Loveland’s Recreation Trail near Boyd Lake State Park to Fort Collins’ Fossil Creek Trail between Lemay Avenue and Timberline Road . Cost for the new trail will total over $1 million when all said and done. $800,000 of that though is coming from grants provided by the Department of Parks and Wildlife and CDOT with the remaining funds coming from Loveland, Fort Collins and Larimer county.

Construction for the Colorado Front Range Trail section linking Loveland and Fort Collins is set to begin in 2016, with a grand opening planned for late summer or fall. All entities are working to complete construction plans for the project estimated to cost $1,012,666.

The trail will technically be right at 2.2-miles and is actually one of two trails, the other being the Long's Peak trail which will be 4.4-miles longs and will be located along the east side of North Taft Avenue in Loveland and South Shields Street in Fort Collins, providing a safe, detached, non-motorized alternative to traveling between the two cities.

There currently is no trail/s that connect to the two cities so this will be a nice touch for those who want to hike or bike between Loveland and Fort Collins.

The Long View Corridor Trail will pass through three City of Fort Collins natural areas, one Larimer County open space and one City of Loveland natural area. The five public spaces, consisting of protected agricultural lands and wildlife habitat, will offer future trail users sweeping views of the foothills and mountains.
