My Boss’s Perspective – If Employees Want to Do Their Job, They’ll Do a Good Job [INTERVIEW]
Hanging inspirational sayings on the wall may not motivate all employees, but it does inspire me. I'm a sucker for a quote. So, when we received Pete Hanson, our new market manager in March 2011 and the first thing he did was hang up a bunch of inspriational quotes, I thought, 'This is some Kool Aid I can drink'.
TRI 102.5's morning show is all about happiness, positive thinking, and having a great life. I believe in these sayings and use them on the air, and I found that I loved having them on the walls. Especially super early in the morning when the halls of radio station are completely deserted, I found myself taking time to read them and pondering how I could bring the wisdom from these great people to the listeners of Northern Colorado.
Then I found out Pete is a cancer survivor
We discuss this further in the interview, but that affected me. Whenever I am bringing drama to the table and Pete is mediating, he remains very calm. I think to myself, 'If I had faced mortality the way he did, would I be worried about this issue?' I don't know if Pete filters this way, (I ask him about it in the interview), but I try to keep that in mind as I make decisions, at work and otherwise.
Since Pete is one of the most positive people I know, and that's coming from a veritable Chris Trager here, I asked him to come into the studio and share his thoughts with us.
Here are the links to the books and people we mentioned in the interview.
