On Saturday, Mountain View Hight School's boys track team defeated the two-time defending champs to claim the 2016 4A state title in poetic fashion. The first title in school history comes in the final season of coach Kevin Clark overseeing the program, as he is leaving to become Loveland High Schools new Athletic Director. According to the Reporter-Herald, Mountain View beat the two-time defending champs Palmer Ridge with a final score of 89 to 79.

To amass that many points, it took a complete team effort and an incredibly gutsy performance from one pole-vaulter. Ramone Salgado, who popped his hip flexor while competing, pushed through the pain and agony, defying the injury and odds claiming the state title in his event. Salgado cleared a height of 14 feet, 11 inches, as did his teammate Brenton Emmons, however, it took Salgado fewer attempts to clear the height. This gave Mountian View an impressive 1-2 finish in the event.
