A moose ran over a woman who was walking her dog in Steamboat Springs over the weekend.  Katharine "Katie" Hash, of Los Angeles was in Steamboat with her husband and visiting her parents. She was treated for head injuries at a Denver hospital. She has since been released from the hospital.

According to CBS 4 in Denver, the animal injured Hash in the Storm Mountain Ranch subdivision in Steamboat Springs.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials are investigating the incident.

What to Do if You Encounter a Moose

Colorado Parks and Wildlife provides these tips for avoiding conflicts:

  • Keep a safe distance
  • Move slowly
  • Keep dogs on leashes
  • Back off when moose put ears back, roll their eyes or appear aggressive
  • Carry a wildlife pepper spray, UDAP or Counter Attack, to use if a moose becomes aggressive
