One of my fondest childhood memories is hanging out with my dad going to watch arenacross, mud racing, truck pulls, and monster trucks! We went at least once every year, and it was a good way to do something together that we both enjoyed and also made for some of my favorite memories as a kid. A memory making opportunity comes our way Friday and Saturday night as MonsterFest hits Colorado National Speedway.

You will have the chance to see a few different monster trucks in action: Razin Kane, Excaliber, Tail Gator, Ice Cream Man, and the Shagman. You can also take a ride in “Thumper” the ride truck. Other attractions include DEMO X, Wandos Motorcycle Stunt Riders, Xtreme Trucks, and take a ride in a Xorb ball!

Since at least the early 70′s, guys have been modifying their pickups into huge machines and using them to jump over cars, on cars, and maneuver other obstacles. Then in 1981, Bob Chandler drove over cars in “Bigfoot” in what is often believed to be the first monster truck to crush cars. The rest is history. Monster trucks vary in size depending on individual design, but generally average an approximate weight of 10,000 pounds and measure about 12 feet in height, 12 feet wide and 20 feet long. The cost to maintain a monster truck can be quite high. A new set of wheels and tires averages $12,500, and the annual cost of maintaining a truck and staff often exceeds $500,000.
