Mix up a Black-Eyed Susan for the Preakness this Weekend
The Preakness Stakes is an American flat Thoroughbred horse race held on the third Saturday in May each year at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. RACE TIME: 4:20 p.m. Mountain Time on NBC.
Don’t mix up mint juleps. Those are for the Kentucky Derby, not the Preakness Stakes. The official drink of the Preakness is The Black-Eyed Susan, which contains:
- 1 1/4 oz whiskey
- 3/4 oz vodka
- 3 oz sweet and sour mix
- 2 oz orange juice
Mix the drink in a shaker with ice, garnished with an orange or cherry, and enjoy.
The running of the 138th Preakness Stakes, the second leg of horse racing’s Triple Crown, is scheduled for Saturday in Baltimore. Kentucky Derby-winner Orb is the favorite in the nine-horse field. Rick Pitino-owned Goldencents, Mylute and Departing are all potential contenders for the winner’s circle.
