Distance may have been the cause of the split between John Mellencamp and Meg Ryan. The two have called it quits after 3 years of dating, because of reasons regarding living situations, with Ryan residing in New York and Mellencamp living in his home state of Indiana. The two got together after Mellencamp and his wife of 18 years divorced, but did so under the radar. It seems that’s how they’d like to end the relationship as well.

Mellencamp is a country boy through and through, and expressed to Rolling Stone that he had trouble living in the Big Apple.

"I'm too sensitive to live there," he told Rolling Stone in December. "I can't see poor people. I can't see the suffering. I can't see the trash on the streets." When it comes to paparazzi attention, he added, "I don't like it for [Ryan]. "I'm not leaving Indiana. I'm going to die here."

According to People.com, their profile during their time together was very low key, with few public appearances and only the occasional sighting on the New York City streets.
