If you've followed my blogging for any amount of time, you know I'm a pretty big cinephile (i.e. I LOVE movies).  So with that in mind, people sometimes ask me what my favorite move of all time is.  And when I tell them, I get everything from double-takes to gasps.

My favorite movie is, and will forever be, the 1988 Tim Burton masterpiece "Beetlejuice."

This movie has everything: a great cast, well-written script, and that wonderful kooky-dark tone Time Burton is known for.

If you're not familiar, here's the basic plot:

A couple of recently deceased ghosts contract the services of a "bio-exorcist" in order to remove the obnoxious new owners of their house.

[via IMDb.]

Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis play the deceased couple, while Michael Keaton plays Beetlejuice; the lewd, crude, "ghost with the most" that claims he can help them reclaim their house from the new living residents (including Winona Ryder in her first ever movie role).

I mentioned "great cast" already, right? ;)

I think one of the real reasons I love this movie so much is because I was a huge fan of the "Beetlejuice" cartoon as a kid.

As a matter of fact, I didn't even know there was a movie at first.  I can still remember that fateful day, walking through the video rental section of King Soopers (remember that?), when I discovered the movie for the first time.  When my eye caught the movie's VHS jacket on the shelf, I nearly lost my mind!  My dad rented it for me, and the rest is history.

I had (and still have) several "Beetlejuice" toys; and one year I was even Beetlejuice for Halloween.  Hey, maybe I should reprise that costume sometime...

So what's your favorite movie, and do you get criticized for it?  Let me know in the comments!
