Yesterday, just about every news outlet in the world reported that Kevin Clash, the puppeteer behind Sesame Street's "Elmo" had been accused of having sex with a minor.

Well, good news, your childhood has not been tainted. The man who accused Clash changed his story today and now says the interaction happened when he was an adult and it was consensual. Whew!

According to the Denver Post, the man, who has not been identified, released a statement through a law firm saying his sexual relationship with Clash was adult and consensual, a far cry from the "He had sex with me when I was sixteen!" that was littering the news outlets yesterday.

In response to the statement Tuesday afternoon, Clash issued a statement of his own, saying he is "relieved that this painful allegation has been put to rest."

I'm glad these allegations were false, but it is a shame someone would even say that about another human being. A couple of friends on Facebook commented about yesterday's story and I think they nailed the situation right on the head.

Sometimes I just wish it weren't reported until all the facts are actually rendered. It ruins peoples lives.

If the claim is unsubstantiated, and the relationship was between two consenting adults, I can only imagine how hurtful this accusation would be.

Sure enough, the accusations turned out to be false and now there are probably tens of thousands of people that will never see this story and live their lives thinking Elmo is a child molester. Can you imagine what life would be like if someone accused you of such a heinous thing and it made national news?!
