According to the Loveland Reporter-Herald, the girl told police she was walking to Monroe Elementary School on 16th Street (Between Washington Ave. and Monroe Ave.) when she claims a van pulled up next to her and the men inside opened the back door and told her to “get in”.

The girl smartly ran to school and thankfully, the van didn’t follow her. The girl then told a teacher and school officials called police.

The girl described the men as older white males and the driver had a pony tail. The red van had a bumper sticker on the back that read "Save a dog, eat a Korean."

If you have any information on the incident or the van in question, please contact the Loveland Police Department at 970-667-2151.

I’m hoping this was just some stupid prank; maybe a couple of guys getting their jollies trying to scare a kid and not an actual attempted abduction.  Regardless, let’s find these dirt bags and make sure no other kids are at risk of getting picked up in their van.

It sickens me to think that there are people in the world that would take and/or harm children.

Parents, here is a link to some tips for keeping kids safe when walking home alone from school, which would probably be very similar to those walking alone to school.  It might be a good time to have another safety chat with your kids, just to make sure they know how they should handle bad situations like this.

On January 14th, 2013 Loveland Police Officers responded to Monroe Elementary to investigate a reported attempted kidnapping.
An eleven-year-old, fifth grade girl told school staff and then our officers that she was walking to school when an older model, red passenger van pulled up next to her. The van was occupied by two “older” white men. The driver had a pony tail. The rear passenger door of the van opened and one of the men told her to get in. She ran from the van toward school. When she made it to the school, she saw the van drive northbound on Madrone Drive next to Silver Lake Park.
There is no further description available for the men in the van; however, one specific item of note provided by the girl is that the van had a bumper sticker which read, “Save a dog, eat a Korean”.
Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance with locating the van and the two men. If anyone has information related to this call, this van, or its occupants, please call the Loveland Police Emergency Communications Center at 970-962-2151.
