Larimer County Sheriff’s Office Adds Two K-9 Deputies – Two Retired

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit has seen some recent changes. Two veteran members, K-9 Arco and K-9 Oso, have recently retired and two new deputies, Tovan and Cash have joined the team.

According to LCSO a press release:

K-9 Arco joined the Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit in 2006 when he was just under two years old. He is a Belgian Malinois. Arco was certified in both patrol and narcotics. His partner was Deputy Dave Feyen.

Arco averaged over 200 deployments per year in his nine years with the department. Now that he is retired, he will continue to live with Deputy Feyen and his family.

One highlight from Arco’s career includes finding over six pounds of narcotics in a vehicle in 2014. Another highlight occurred in 2010 when Arco tracked a suspect for over one mile in downtown Fort Collins and located him hiding inside a nearby business

K-9 Oso is a German Shepherd and started his career at LCSO in August 2011 when he was just 20 months old. He was originally partnered with Deputy Kevin Kingston and then partnered with Deputy Jamie Smith in July 2013.

Oso was certified in both patrol and narcotics and averaged over 175 deployments per year.  Unfortunately, he retired early due to an on-the-job injury.

Tovan and Cash are Dutch Shepherds from the Netherlands and became members of the unit in March 2015. Tovan is partnered with Deputy Feyen and Cash is partnered with Deputy Smith.

One highlight from Oso’s career involved assisting the LCSO Criminal Impact Unit in locating 118 grams of methamphetamine, $2,000 cash, and narcotics distribution products on one deployment.
