Larimer County has confirmed two new cases of the West Nile virus for a total of 3 cases in our state this year. The first case was in Delta County in early July. Larimer County health officials said Wednesday that one person is from north of Loveland and one from south of Fort Collins. One is hospitalized with encephalitis and one with meningitis.

The identities of the Larimer County patients weren't disclosed. Last week, House Minority Leader Brian DelGrosso said former state Rep. Ken Summers was hospitalized with encephalitis in Loveland

CSU recently tested a pool of mosquitoes and found a rapid rise in the number of insects carrying the virus. 7 News has more about this story.
